A minimally invasive, implant-free outpatient treatment for chronic low back pain that preserves spinal structure.
Spinal Cord Stimulation
Spinal cord stimulation delivers therapeutic electrical impulses near the spinal cord to interrupt pain signals traveling to the brain. A distinctive feature is the trial period lasting 5-8 days, allowing patients to test effectiveness before permanent commitment.
During the trial, temporary electrodes are positioned near the spinal cord and connected to an external battery. Success requires at least 50% pain reduction and improved function.
If successful, permanent implantation is a minimally invasive day surgery with only minor incisions. Recovery involves brief activity restrictions before patients resume normal function.
After Your Procedure
Following the permanent implantation, there are a few activity restrictions for several weeks while the incision sites heal and the leads settle into position.
Your physician will provide guidelines on movement and activity during the recovery period. Most patients return to their previous activity levels within a few weeks of the procedure.
Your Desert Pain Specialists team will schedule follow-up appointments to program and adjust your stimulator settings, ensuring optimal pain relief tailored to your needs.
