SI Joint Fusion
The SI joint connects the sacrum to the pelvis and carries substantial load, supporting the entire weight of the upper body. Pain can develop due to this tremendous load and excessive motion affecting nerves in the area. When conservative approaches fail, physicians offer a minimally invasive outpatient procedure using titanium implants delivered through a small tube to reduce excess joint motion. These implants promote bone healing. The procedure is typically completed in 30-45 minutes with faster recovery than traditional surgery. SI joint pain commonly affects trauma survivors, individuals with previous spine fusion procedures, and women post-childbirth.
After Your Procedure
Because this is a minimally invasive procedure performed through a small incision, recovery time is significantly quicker than traditional open surgery. Most patients go home the same day.Your physician will provide specific guidelines for activity and weight-bearing during the initial healing period as the titanium implants integrate with the bone. Physical therapy may be recommended to support recovery.Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor healing and ensure the implants are promoting proper bone fusion. Most patients experience progressive improvement over the weeks following the procedure.
