Epidural Steroid Injections
An Epidural Steroid Injection is a minimally invasive procedure that targets pain in the lower back, neck, and extremities caused by inflammatory spinal conditions. The physician uses fluoroscopic (x-ray) guidance to properly position the needle and inject a corticosteroid-anesthesia mixture into the epidural space of the spine.
Patients typically experience immediate pain relief from the anesthetic component. More substantial, long-term relief develops over approximately two weeks as the steroid takes effect.
The procedure generally provides between three to six months of pain relief, helping patients return to daily activities with significantly reduced discomfort.
After Your Procedure
Patients typically note some immediate pain relief from the anesthetic used in the procedure. More long-term pain relief can take up to two weeks to take effect as the steroid reduces inflammation.
This procedure generally delivers three to six months of pain relief, though results vary by patient and condition severity.
Most patients can return to normal activities the same day. Your physician will provide specific aftercare instructions and schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress.
